3 Ways To Encourage Your Kids To Take Better Care Of Their Braces

When you have kids, you know just how difficult it can be to get them to take care of their favorite toys, let alone something like their braces. But because braces can be fairly expensive (and you want them to work), you need to make sure that your children are taking as good of care of their teeth as possible. To encourage them to have better habits, this article will list three different things that you can do. Ready to learn some more? Read on.

Get them Into Good Habits

One of the best things that you can do is get your kids into good habits starting the first week that they have braces. Remember that the sooner they get into good habits, the more natural things will be. For instance, get them into the habit of brushing their teeth after each and every meal (even when they are at school). As soon as they are in this habit, it will be second nature. Another habit you should get them into is using a water flosser both morning and night. Water flossers are ideal for orthodontics because rather than having to weave dental floss in between your brackets, you can just use pressurized water to get the job done.

Give them An Incentive

Another thing that you can do is give your kids an incentive. Yes, it may sound like bribery, but sometimes children need a tangible incentive to accomplish a goal. When your kids know that they will get something out of doing something, they are more inclined to do it. No, you don't have to give them a huge incentive, but you could give them a couple of dollars a week or give them a $10 bill if their orthodontist says they've been taking good care of their teeth after their next appointment.

Let Them Reap the Benefits

Another thing that you can do to encourage your kids to take better care of their braces is to let them know that the more they take care of their teeth, the less time they will have to wear their braces. If your child does everything that their orthodontist asks of them, they should have their braces off before they know it, which means that they will get to reap the benefits.

As you can see, there are a few easy ways that you can get your kids to take care of their teeth and braces.
